Fatigue and Mitochondria

Monday 27th November 2006
Mitochondria are rod-shaped entities within the cell. They are the power generators of the cell, converting oxygen and nutrients into adenosine triphosphate (ATP). Within their walls the Krebs Cycle operates and produces ATP. ATP is the chemical energy or "currency" of the cell that powers a range of metabolic activities. Cells with a high metabolic rate (heart muscle cells) may contain many thousands of mitochondria. Some cells may contain only dozens. Mitochondrial energy production is a foundation for health and wellbeing. Even subtle deficits in mitochondrial function can cause weakness, fatigue and cognitive difficulties. Some environmental toxins can interfere with mitochondrial function and cause a variety of symptoms, including chronic fatigue.
If your mitochondria have become inefficient then ones overall energy and function will also be down. Ones health depends on a dynamic series of chemical reactions and as such is a system.Like any complex system this can function effeciently or inefficiently.
Your test result from Biolabs is a world first and gains insight into the efficiency of your mitochondria. Are they producing energy quickly and in what proportions. If not whats blocking them. This test can identify some of the toxins responsible for mitochondrial damage. This is emerging as a vital test in a range of chronic health issues. We get very useful information which may help us direct therapy more effectively in a range of health issues.
Below is a list of supplements that are important for efficient Mitochondrial function
Vitamin B3
Vitamin B12
Magnesium
D Ribose
Acetyl Carnitine
Copper
Zinc
Manganese
Furthermore this is an emerging field and we are contniuing to understand how best we can support and improve mitochondrial function.
